What is Liposuction?

Liposuction slims and reshapes areas of the body by removing excess fat deposits and improving your body contours and proportion.

Excess fat deposits often build up in and are removed from:

  • Thighs
  • Hips and buttocks
  • Abdomen and waist
  • Upper arms
  • Back
  • Inner knee
  • Chest area
  • Cheeks, chin, and neck
  • Calves and ankles

Liposuction can be performed alone, or alongside other surgeries such as facelift, breast reduction, or a tummy tuck.

Who are ideal candidates for Liposuction?

If you have stubborn fat deposits – located anywhere on your body – that aren’t responding to healthy diet and exercise habits, liposuction may be right for you.

Adults that are within 30% of their ideal weight who have firm, elastic skin and good muscle tone are fantastic candidates. You should also be a non-smoker and not have any conditions that might impair healing.

The Procedure

Step 1: Anesthesia
For your general comfort Dr. Mecham will administer intravenous sedation or general anesthesia for the duration of the surgery.
Step 2: The incision
Liposuction is performed through small, inconspicuous incisions at the surgical sites. Prior to any incision, a diluted local anesthesia is infused to reduce bleeding and trauma. The excess fat is then suctioned out of the body through a thin, hollow tube using a controlled back and forth motion.

Recovery and Results

One your procedures are complete Dr. Mecham will apply compression garments or elastic bandages to help control swelling and compress the skin to your new body contours. In addition, she may place small temporary drains to remove any excess blood or fluids.

Your improved body contour will be apparent once the swelling and fluid retention subsides. This swelling is perfectly normal and expected.

Dr. Mecham will provide you with very detailed instructions on how to care for your incisions after your surgery. You may be prescribed some additional medications to aid in the healing process.
